She told BI the market is saturated with vegan options, making purely vegan restaurants obsolete. AdvertisementThis as-told-to essay is based on a conversation with Mollie Englehart, executive chef at Sage Regenerative Kitchen & Brewery in California. Last month, Englehart announced that her restaurants, which were called Sage Vegan Bistro, would now offer meat, dairy, and eggs to customers. It's almost like everybody adding a vegan option makes the vegan restaurant obsolete because there's no need for it. It's not just an epidemic of vegan restaurants closing; I think for restaurants post-pandemic, it was generally really hard to recover.

The restaurant will instead support regenerative farming practices — a move condemned by PETA. AdvertisementThe chef of a Los Angeles vegan restaurant announced that her restaurant is rebranding and transitioning to serving meat, dairy, and eggs. Renamed the Sage Regenerative Kitchen & Brewery, the restaurant will instead focus on supporting regenerative farming practices, Engelhart said in an Instagram video. AdvertisementEngelhart told the LA Times that she was being "vulnerable" in announcing the move, and that she had braced herself for the "vitriol" to come. She also told the LA Times that financial considerations influenced her decision, with the newspaper reporting that the restaurants had not been profitable since 2020.

Mr. Scorsese takes a different tack. Rather than aim for moral development of the audience through empathy for Osage suffering, he focuses on Ernest Burkhart. Ernest is the paradigmatic wolf, just as Mr. DiCaprio has played other wolves throughout his career, on Wall Street and elsewhere. Mr. Burkhart acts on simple, underdeveloped moral principles — and often not exactly out of malice, but self-interest. Mr. Burkhart is driven by base desires — financial gain and other perquisites of power — toward horrific acts against his own family.

Newly minted Oscar nominee Lily Gladstone almost quit acting before her star-making turn in "Killers of the Flower Moon". But her plans changed when she was offered the chance to star in "Killers of the Flower Moon" opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. The role not only revitalized Gladstone's acting career, it also made her the first Native American ever nominated for Best Actress. "Being known as an actress felt good even when I wasn't working, even before I got my SAG card," Gladstone told the New York Times earlier this month. Gladstone is next slated to appear alongside Riley Keough in the Hulu true crime drama "Under the Bridge."

It is also, she said, about “the love that Mollie and her community had for each other. As an actor and then, how I can help get other stories told that deserve to be out there.

NAPLES, Fla. (AP) — The money from corporate support keeps poring into the LPGA Tour, which on Thursday announced a 2024 schedule with over $116 million in prize money and a record 10 regular tournaments offering at least $3 million. Political Cartoons View All 1250 ImagesThe agreement includes this week's CME Group Tour Championship. Prize money on the LPGA Tour has been steadily climbing, with recent boosts coming from the majors, particularly the U.S. Women's Open ($11 million this year) and the KPMG Women's PGA Championship ($10 million). This year, only four regular tournaments — not including the five majors or the CME Group Tour Championship — had prize funds of $3 million or more. The Women's PGA goes to Sahalee outside Seattle, while the U.S. Women's Open is at Lancaster Country Club in Pennsylvania.

The big increase — double what the winner gets this year — comes from a two-year extension with Chicago-based CME Group, which sponsors the season-long Race to CME Globe. Along with the winner receiving $4 million, the runner-up gets $1 million and all 60 players to reach the season finale are guaranteed at least $55,000. "As a long-standing supporter of women in business and sports, CME Group is pleased to continue our partnership with the LPGA to further elevate women’s golf,” said Terry Duffy, chairman and CEO of CME Group. “CME Group has been pushing the LPGA forward at every step of our evolution since 2011 and with this extension they are once again helping take the LPGA, women’s golf and women’s sports to unprecedented heights," LPGA Commissioner Mollie Marcoux Samaan said. NEW YORK (AP) — The fallout from the actors strike, now past 100 days, has been widespread throughout the film industry. As the strike pushes into Hollywood’s awards season, it’s increasingly muting the reception for some of the best performances of the year. With so many out of work due to the strike, no one should cry for muzzled Oscar campaigns. Of all the haunting images and disturbing sounds that permeate Martin Scorsese’s “Killers of the Flower Moon,” none is more upsetting than the guttural cry from Mollie Burkhart (Lily Gladstone), a tortured wail of rage and grief that escapes her reserved visage when tragedy strikes. Mollie’s howl of pain is not quite like any sound heard before in a Scorsese film. But in many ways, Scorsese is emulating her jarring cry in the ominous aesthetics of “Killers of the Flower Moon” itself, and of his 2019 feature, “The Irishman.”The movies have much in common: their creative teams, expansive running times, period settings, narrative density and epic scope. But what most keenly sets them apart from the rest of Scorsese’s work is the element by which the filmmaker is arguably most easily identified: their violence. In these films, the deaths, which are frequent, are hard and fast and blunt, a marked departure from the intricately stylized and ornately edited set pieces of his earlier work.

Mollie Kyle was a single woman from a wealthy Osage family, which made her a target. First, in 1918, a sister, Minnie Smith, died of what doctors called a “peculiar wasting illness” (probably poisoning). With each death, Mollie — and therefore Ernest — inherited additional headrights. The Osage Tribal Council suspected Hale early on, but it couldn’t get anyone to testify against him: Hale had bribed or threatened many witnesses into silence. CNN —There’s a difference between “long” and “epic,” although in movie terms the two frequently get confused. Martin Scorsese delivers the former but not the latter with “Killers of the Flower Moon,” his second consecutive three-and-a-half-hour movie derived from a true story and underwritten by a prestige-hungry streaming service. Notably, “Killers of the Flower Moon” will receive a wide big-screen launch that includes playing on hundreds of Imax screens. Either way, Scorsese has served up a movie that also plunges into a dark history and comes away with less bang for its bucks. “Killers of the Flower Moon” premieres October 20 in US theaters and will later play on Apple TV+.

Led by Scorsese, the filmmakers aimed to be scrupulously authentic in the ways they depicted the Osage, down to the threads in their clothing. “Few people in the world could afford that, but they documented their lives and their travel and where they lived so beautifully. By the early 20th century, the Osage were as au courant as Vogue editors. The wedding scene in “Killers of the Flower Moon” is a showstopper, with Mollie Kyle, the bride played by Gladstone, and her bridesmaid sisters in richly embroidered skirts, finger-woven belts and bespoke military coats, complete with brass buttons and braided epaulets.
